Green Eggs and H-ameraucanas

It's been a while since I went for my morning walk but this morning I just decided to go do it. It was a short walk, but it was a walk nonetheless. :b I have really been regretting not doing it, but somehow I got out of the habit when hubby and I got sick last month and it's been cold out in the early morning! So here's to getting back on the wagon. =)

Oh, and I should probably tell you that hubby made these awesome cookies the other day and I can't seem to stay out of them. :b Another reason.

My Christmas cards are basically finished. I just need to sit down and get them all assembled. It was all the parts that took the most time. I did put one together and they turned out super cute. I can't wait to get them sent off!

It's (almost) the most wonderful time of the year! I can't wait until after Thanksgiving and we can start decorating for Christmas and baking. I'm sure my cats are looking forward to messing with the tree again. That is AFTER they decide it's okay for it to be in the house! LOL Wish my girls were coming home for Christmas, that would make it perfect.

Chickens are doing well. I don't think they like this cold rainy weather but they are still laying. We are getting about 30 eggs a week now. Our little Charlotte and Ladyhawke are the sweetest ameraucana chickens. Charlotte is laying pink/brown eggs and Ladyhawke is laying green eggs. Green eggs and ham, anyone? :b I had wondered if Dr. Seuss knew about the ameraucana eggs when he wrote Green Eggs and Ham, but was sure he wrote the book before the breed was developed. Sure enough. When I looked it up I found that the book was first published in 1960 and that was a good 10 years before the ameraucana was bred in the US from chickens imported from Chile. Those are your trivia facts for today. *nods*

Whoo hoo!

Got 6 eggs today...one from each of my hens! Four brown, one green and one pink. :b

November is here!

Can you believe it's already November? I can see Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner!

Hubby and I spent the second half of October sick. Both of us had icky head colds, it's still sorta hanging on but not as bad as it was. Chicks are doing well. Infact, my Wyandottes (Penelope and Pearl) are finally laying! Pearl's first egg was long and skinny...it was so funny looking! My husband called it a little torpedo. hehe Charlotte is my only girl not laying. =( She is such a whiner! I have never seen a chicken 'whine' so much. LOL I feel sorry for her though because she is at the bottom of the pecking order and the other girls just pick on her. I wonder if she will ever lay...

I had to relist a few things in my Etsy shop that expired and a couple things I decided not to relist -- the dinosaur and pinwheel cards. I have another pinwheel card set I'm going to list instead, I just haven't gotten around to it. I've been working on my Christmas cards and this year they are a little complicated. Not hard to do, there are just so many steps. I'm hoping to have them finished by next week so I can get them sent out after Thanksgiving. I'd like my 2 friends in New Zealand to have their cards BEFORE Christmas. :b I would LOVE to post a picture of them but I don't know who is reading my blog and who isn't and don't want to spoil the surprise!! :b I will probably post a pic after Christmas when I know everyone has received them.

That's it for now. =)

When do I NOT talk about my chickens?

You're right! NEVER. LOL So we had a little -- well, really it was a big scare on the 1st of the month. I found my girls being tormented by a Cooper's hawk. Since that day we have acquired a new family member. His name is Wyatt Chirp. He is our new Barred Rock rooster. He is a really good boy. He sings to the girls when they are laying and he keeps a really close eye on them when they are free ranging. Wyatt is still intimidated by his humans and he's not aggressive toward them at all. I really really like him, more than I anticipated. Welcome to the family, Wyatt. =)

Next up...my hubby and I love going to yard sales and thrift stores. You just never know what you will find and the hunt is what's fun! About a week ago we hit Goodwill and look what I found:

A brand new set of clear flourish stamps by Martha Stewart ($1.99), a Stipple Plaid background stamp by Stampin' Up (99c), a smiley stamp by SU! (49c), a Big Shot texture plate (99c) and a couple embellishment packs (99c each & not included in the photo). Those background stamps are usually a couple dollars more, I don't know why this one was only 99 cents...but it was a good find for me! LOL Since hubby started working a new schedule, we have not really had good luck with the yard sales. =/ Ah well, win some/lose some, right? Keep Calm and thrift on!! :b

Ok, now I have a little rant:  I pick up a lot of craft supplies from eBay. I watch a LOT before buying -- I'm looking for bargains, bargains, bargains!! I see what items are actually selling for before I buy. I might watch an item for a couple months and discover something I originally saw selling for $20, sell for around $8 one out of every 5 sales. I managed to pick up a cling mount set of "Build a Blossom" by Stampin' Up for only $10+ a couple dollars shipping. You have to understand though, I watched these sell for a couple months before I finally found one at this price...and I managed to find mine listed 'Buy it Now'. You MUST be patient! Oh yeah, back to my rant:  Recently after watching for about 5 months, I found "Out on a Limb" by Stampin' Up for $25+ free shipping. I had not seen this particular stamp set listed for under $34 and SORRY, but I'm NOT paying that much for a set of stamps. LOL So the listing states that this set is NEW and UM (unmounted). I prefer my sets to be unmounted, whether or not they are cling or wood mount. So I receive the set yesterday and it is NOT new nor is it unmounted. This didn't change the quality of the set...but WHY LIE TO THE BUYER? I would've purchased the set anyway! I know this is really minor, but it's not right to be mislead by a seller. Nuff said.

I have a couple more cards that I will be listing in my shop in the next couple days. I sold one of my hummingbird cards the other day. I don't know why but according to the tracking, my post office took 2 days to even acknowledge I mailed it. =/

That is all I have for now. I am really trying to get in here and post more often...but it's not like I have a huge following anyway, right? LOL I am definitely going to start taking pics of my Goodwill/yard sale hauls and posting them for you to see. You can find some good deals, you just have to hunt for them. I find lots of name brand papercrafting supplies all the time. I found an old style (the red and white one) Big Kick at Goodwill once for only $6. It didn't have any plates with it. I'm kinda 'big kick'ing myself for not buying it but I don't need it and I'm trying not to be a hoarder. HAHAHA!

Eggs, eggs, eggs!

Luci was acting kinda strange this morning -- walking around looking up at the patio chairs, making this little clucking sound and walking around looking up at everything. She jumped up on a little table that is next to a patio chair that I happened to be sitting in. I reached over to pet her and asked her if she was alright...because at that moment I only suspected what she was up to. She came over next to me and started picking at the chair cushion and trying to climb in behind me...then I knew my suspicions were correct. She was definitely looking for a nesting spot. So I got up and let her climb over to the seat of the chair. I got her to climb up on my hand and I held her close and walked her over to the chickencoop. She didn't seem to be pleased with that...so I just opened up the side door. The side door basically opens the whole side for easy access to clean out the coop. I went back over and sat down and in a minute she went back inside the coop on her own. I had seen her climbing the ladder earlier like she was going to go in but then she would  go back down and wonder around a bit and then do it again. Anyway, she settled into one of the nestboxes and I went to grab my cell phone to get a pic because I knew my hubby would want to see. :b

I then closed the door to give her privacy and went about my business. An hour and 15 minutes later, she emerged from the coop and when I checked, there was her egg. =) I'm so happy! Three of our chickens are now laying. YAY!!

It's been a few days...

I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted (AGAIN), I guess I should do that! LOL Well, Gertie has been laying eggs regularly everyday since I last posted and now we have another hen that is also laying but every other day. We don't know who the mystery egg-layer is, either! =) I imagine they will all be laying here in a minute.

I got some new things in my shop listed. I listed one of the pumpkin cards and the bunny card I made:

I also listed a couple stamp sets and a couple packages of Spectrum Noir markers that I already had before I bought the lot of 72. That reminds me, I went ahead and got the four 24 packs that they sell to go with those markers and the storage rack so now I have all 168 markers and I just LOVE them! I have been playing around with them and sorting out my favorite color combos. If you are just starting out with alcohol markers and want to try a nice set without spending a lot of money, I highly recommend the Spectrum Noir line. Here is a link to the first 72 to get you started:

and the 4 additional 24 packs here:

(links removed)

I had also listed a Martha Stewart Circle cutter in my shop but it sold yesterday and I already have it dropped off at the post office. If you are interested, you can find one here. I just didn't care for this particular cutter and bought a set of circle dies instead. I don't remember who made the dies, I just picked them up at Michael's and used a %40 off coupon...so I got a pretty good deal. =)
That is all I can think of for now. Hubby was home sick from work yesterday, so we just had a pretty relaxed day. If I think of anything else I forgot, I'll come back and post it. Thanks for stopping by! =)

Hello!

It's been a few days since my last post. I'm kinda behind I guess. :b Yesterday, hubby and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. We went out to dinner and had a nice evening together. Nothing fancy. I'd definitely marry him all over again. =)

In other news, our little red hen (Gertie) has laid 2 eggs in the last 3 days! She seems to think that one of the padded patio chairs is her nest, though. LOL Anyway, we opened up the nestboxes in the coop and got them ready and available for the girls, but no eggs in there yet!! LOL

I don't have pictures of the pumpkin cards yet (well I do, but they aren't ready to post). I will get them up soon and I also have a cute little birthday bunny card to share as well. I decided the other day that I wanted to rearrange some stuff in my craft room as one of my work tables was not really getting any use except to be the crafty 'catch all' from yard sales, craft store sales, etc. So I had to change that! LOL Last weekend I picked up a vintage 18"x18" Premiere guillotine paper cutter for $10. It was an awesome deal!! The guillotine paper cutter I have now, someone messed with the ruler that lines the top and it cuts about an 1/8 inch off at the other end of the paper, I had a hard time with a couple projects before I realized that. >.< The new paper trimmers just don't hold up like the vintage ones. I have already replaced the cutting blade on my Recollections trimmer a couple three times and I only bought it a few months back...maybe 6 months? Junk. I wish I could find replacement blades for my X-Acto 12 inch rotary trimmer...I LOVE THAT THING!! But it's a discontinued product and you can't buy anything for it anymore...however, it does give me a nice distressed edge cut! LOL

Will pop in soon to get those pics posted. Have a wonderful evening! =)

Issues with Ebay!

Ah, I was so panicked when I tried to check on the status of a recent order. Ebay would not let me sign in and when I tried to have Ebay resend my password, their system told me that my email did not exist! I was freaking out! So I called my bestie Rene to see if she could sign in and she couldn't either. That made me feel better...but well, it kinda didn't. I won't feel better until I can actually sign in myself and see that all is fine. I did find this website and discovered that MANY people were having the same issue. I still want to sign in to my own account, though!! LOL!!

The last couple days have been busy. You were probably thinking I fell off the face of the earth since receiving my new Spectrum Noir markers!! LOL They are AWESOME, too! I love them! They color so smooth...huge difference compared to Sharpies and Bic Mark-its! I really love this pansy stamp and it's the first thing I colored! =)

I made 4 autumn theme pumpkin cards yesterday. Will have to get pics of them so I can show you before I post them in my shop. I really need to get started on my Christmas cards. They aren't going to be able to be thrown together in just a couple days. Really makes you wonder what I'm doing, huh? hehe I'm not telling. :b

That's all for now. Gonna go see if I can login to Ebay yet. *crosses fingers* >.<

YAY!!

My Spectrum Noir markers arrived today! They are delicious! I finished up my color chart and now I'm ready to play!! =)

Started out my morning with my walk. So nice to get out again!! Walking really is like a drug once you start it. I was feeling kinda down the last few days...like someone took away my happy pills!! LOL So, now I'm feeling like I have it back together. Whew!

All in all, it's been rather a good day. I even got my housework done by 9am!! Oh, that reminds me, I have the last of the laundry in the dryer!! LOL Might even be wrinkled by now!! :b Gonna go get those hung up and go play with my new markers. =)

Until next time friends! :D

Weekend Deals

Well, my Spectrum Noir markers still have not arrived...so I'm trying really really really really realllllly hard to be patient.  >.<

Right now I'm waiting for my phone to charge so I can list a couple new cards in my Etsy shop. I took pics with my new OttLite the other day and now they are kinda sorta trapped on my phone until it's charged. Btw, this particular OttLite is still on sale. Not for the wonderful 50% off that I got, but it's still 40% off without a coupon. It's nice to not have to go outside to get my picture taking done. =)

Over the weekend I found a great deal at Michael's. I picked up a Sizzix 'Where Women Cook' Milk Carton Box die for only $7.50!  Anyway, how you ask? It was on the clearance rack. Why? Because it was missing the instructions. =/ If you follow that link, they have a downloadable PDF for it. LOL I knew that when I picked it up and set it in my cart...my eyes were all starry and a big smile crept over my face. :b I also picked up an extra tape refill for my ATG gun. I like having spares so if I run out I don't have to leave my project and run out to pick some up. I only buy spares of stuff I run out of regularly, though. If I kept spares of everything I would be a hoarder. LOL And I'm not a hoarder!! I'm a "PROCRAFTINATOR". *nods*

Btw, I would have listed a link directly to Michael's for that Sizzix die but have you noticed how UNfriendly their website is!?? I can NEVER find anything I'm looking for on their website. It's easier to just call or go over there. Seriously. They are still my favorite craft store but they definitely need a new webmaster. I would have listed Hobby Lobby because of their immaculate selection of supplies...but, they don't take competitors coupons and they are an hour away. =/

So that is about all I have for now. Will check back in a couple three days. :D

Happy birthday, Mom. RIP

Waiting, waiting, waiting!

I'm impatiently waiting for my Spectrum Noir markers to get here! I'm so excited, I can't wait!!! I ordered the basic set of 72...I really think that is all I will need, but when it comes to craft supplies...never say you won't need anymore. It's just a big fat hairy lie!! HAHA :b

I got up today and did my morning walk. It was kinda nice because I went by myself. I usually walk with my friend/neighbor, Deb. We take two of her three dogs out with us. One of her huskies is overweight so he goes out every day, the other two switch off. Anyway...got some gardening done this morning after I got back and even managed to get one of my rose bushes pruned and under control. After that, I was definitely ready for a shower. I haven't really gotten anything done since but that's okay -- I did a bunch of housework yesterday. I need to make up for it today. :b

Until next time, friends. Same blonde hair, same rap channel. Goodnight everyone, thank you for coming. (Sorry, had an Eminem moment.)

Yes, I'm really posting.

I keep putting off getting this started again...I don't know why. I have had LOTS to post about. Let me catch you up really fast:

We started gardening last summer with a couple of 8'x4' garden boxes that my husband built. We enjoyed it immensely!! This year, we planted another garden and also started canning some of it. We made some awesome pasta sauce -- twice.

That was last year's garden. Here is some of the canning we did this year:

We also decided to raise some chickens. In April we picked up 6 chickens: Luci, a Buff Orpington; Penelope, a Golden Laced Wyandotte; Pearl, a Silver Laced Wyandotte; Gertie, a Rhode Island Red; and Charlotte and LadyHawke, both Ameraucanas. They are very entertaining and fun to watch. Hopefully we will have eggs soon -- to eat that is. We do not have a rooster, so there won't be any young'ns. :b I LOVE MY GIRLS!!
We spent about 5 weeks getting the chicken coop built. Still have to get it roofed but during these hot summer months, we are putting that off because it's TOO STINKIN' HOT AND UNUSUALLY MUGGY!!! Ugh.
Last December my youngest daughter moved out on her own. She did have to move back home a few months ago for a short time while she found another job after Walmart laid her off. She is now living up north with my oldest and has successfully found another job. Hopefully my girls will be able to find a bigger place to live soon before they drive each other nuts. LOL! I LOVE THESE GIRLS TOO!!

Another huge thing that happened is that I rediscovered my love for rubber stamping, cardmaking and papercrafting. I decided a couple of Christmases ago to make my own Christmas cards. I had done it before (a LONG time ago) and thought I would do it again just to do something different. I forgot how much fun and relaxing papercrafting is!!! The cards were a hit and it was the start of my new addiction. HAHA I have made all my Christmas cards since and plan on doing it again this year. I started making cards for friends and family and many kept telling me that I should be selling them....so, that is exactly what I did! LOL I opened a shop on Etsy!! It's still very much in its infancy but I've gotten started, that's all that matters. =)

So for weeks now I have been meaning to come in here and perk up the old blog I started a couple years ago. Like today, I made another card and wanted to come and share but thought 'my blog's still not ready'. Well Sandra....it's never going to be ready if you don't get in here and post something! RIGHT!?!??? So, here I am :b and here is today's card:
The lighting is horrid, I know...I just sent it real quick from my cellphone. LOL I just started using alcohol markers...I own cheapies but they are getting the job done. Looking into buying something worth bragging about currently. :b

I made this card about 3 days ago...would have posted, but you know...the whole blog wasn't ready thing.  >.<
More bad lighting. Ugh. I will take better pics before putting both cards in my shop.

So anyway, that is about all I have time to write about for now. It's almost dinnertime....hubby is making Étouffée (pronounced ay-TOO-fay). It's so yummy! Thanks Dad!!! :b

Will post more later...cuz now the blog is all geared up and ready to go. o.0
